Dr Ian Kerr BDS qualified as a dentist in 1989 from Newcastle University Dental School and has worked ever since in both private practice and hospital settings.

Who I am
Hi, I’m Ian and I’m a dentist at StoneRock Dental Care. I’ve been helping people take care of their teeth and oral health for more than three decades. I’ve worked in general dental practices and hospitals, caring for thousands of patients over the years. For the last 20 years, I’ve been based at StoneRock Dental Care in Hawkhurst, Kent, a practice I founded and built from the ground up.

What I Do
I focus on providing thorough, thoughtful dental care, and I’ve always believed that to do that well, you need the right tools and the right knowledge. That’s why I’ve made sure our practice is equipped with modern technology and why I’ve spent my career learning as much as I can.

Areas I’m Especially Passionate About
Jaw Pain & TMD (Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction):
Early in my career, I developed a special interest in helping people with chronic facial and jaw pain. This led me to advanced training in restorative dentistry both in the UK and the US. For over 30 years, this has shaped the way I plan treatment for my patients.

Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry:
I completed a Diploma in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry to help patients with more complex needs. My goal is to restore not just the function of your teeth, but also their appearance—so their teeth feel good and look great.

Dental Implants:
With a Postgraduate Certificate in Implantology, I work with a surgical team to plan and deliver everything from single tooth replacements to full mouth reconstructions. Relief of acute and chronic pain through endodontics I earned a Master’s degree with distinction in Specialist Health Care and even had my research published in the British Dental Journal. I enjoy this area because it’s so often tied to
relieving pain and saving teeth.

Sleep & Dental Health:
I also have a special interest in dental sleep medicine and have a Postgraduate Certificate in this field. I help patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea—a condition that’s often overlooked but can be linked to tooth grinding and jaw pain.

Ethics & Patient Communication:
I’ve studied law and risk management as well, including a Master of Laws (LLM) focusing on consent in dentistry. Why? Because I believe patients deserve to fully understand their options and feel confident in their decisions.

My Approach
Despite all the training, qualifications, and years of experience, my guiding principle has always been simple: Kindness and respect come first. I know dental care can feel overwhelming or confusing, and I take the time to explain things in a way that makes sense. I’ll always make sure you feel informed and comfortable—no pressure, no jargon, just honest advice and ethical care.
