The Hygienist Team at StoneRock Dental Care play a very key role in our philosophy where the dentist, the hygienist and the patient work together to provide a co-diagnosis.
Most practices now have a hygienist and many patients will be used to seeing one, but perhaps, not quite so many are really sure why we have hygienists.
The main reason that hygienists have become so important in modern dentistry is that we are all much more interested in keeping our teeth longer. The role of the dentist has changed almost beyond recognition over the last 40 years. With so much of their time now taken up in complex restorative work, the need for an extra member of the team became irresistible. Hence the position of the hygienist was created to work along side the dentist, helping patients with the treatment of the their gum disease and working with them to prevent further dental problems. Qualified hygienists can now give local anaesthetic, just like the dentist, and can under take extensive treatments for advanced gum disease. A visit to the hygienist can be every bit as important as visit to the dentist.
We at StoneRock Dental Care are very proud to be working with our hygiene team, and feel that all of our patients should benefit from the excellent care and attention that they provide. It is part of our StoneRock philosophy that for a patient to have the best chance of successful treatment they must, first, be part of the diagnosis. With this in mind we like, where possible, to work together with the dentist, the hygienist and the patient all providing a co-diagnosis. At any hygiene visit it is possible for the dentist to come in and work together with the patient and hygienist to discuss the best way of either treating active disease or maintaining improved health. It is through this constant re-evaluation of the condition of the mouth that the patient has the greatest chance of keeping a healthy, happy smile.
