This case shows how fibre reinforced composites can restore teeth where conventional techniques cannot. As can be seen from the photos the teeth in this smile were very damaged and the two lateral incisors had to be removed. The front central incisors were comfortable but could not be relied upon to support conventional bridge work. Implant retained crowns could have been used but were prohibited by cost and by the extensive bone loss following the extractions. The very worn lower teeth were evidence of a very traumatic contact between upper and lower teeth and meaning there was no room for a conventional denture, which the patient was keen to avoid in any case.
Building up the lower front teeth with direct composite and replacing the missing front teeth with direct fibre reinforced composite bridges allowed us to overcome these problems with a relatively low cost and speedy (one visit) solution. The results are easy to maintain and can be repaired with ease. If the lower fillings wear down they can simply be rebuilt. The entire restorative effort was achieved with out any drilling to the teeth and there was no need for any local anaesthetic to be used.
