I”ve shown a few of these cases but I do love them. They represent a really quick and cost effective way to enhance a smile and protect the teeth from further wear and tear.
The whitening takes two weeks and then the build ups are done in one day so the whole process can be very quick. There is no drilling to the teeth and so no local anaesthetic is required. The white fillings are built up in bulk on the backs of the teeth so that they are sufficiently strong to resist normal chewing and grinding. The back teeth are not in contact for approximately 6-8 weeks after this build up but the bite returns to normal without any discomfort.
The build ups are prone to staining, especially in smokers and in heavy “clenchers and grinders” they can wear down in a few years. If this happens then new white filling is simply added on top. In these cases it is much better that it is filling being worn down and not natural tooth tissue. In normal use the build ups can be expected to last 8- 10 years.
