Cosmetic dentistry is the area of dentistry that concentrates on improving the appearance of a person’s teeth so that they can smile with confidence and feel good about how they look. It cannot be done in isolation from the overall health of the mouth however and must be done as part of an comprehensive plan to improve the condition of the teeth and gums and in such away that the teeth function properly and are being properly maintained on a daily basis.
An enhanced smile can be truly life changing. Finding the way to achieve your ultimate smile is a result of good communication with your chosen clinician and a highly skilled team.
The team at StoneRock can help you create the smile you want and deserve, in a way that suits you best.
Perhaps one of the biggest problems facing patients today is the bewildering array of treatment options that they are sometimes faced with. At StoneRock Dental Care we hope to over come this by taking the time to fully explain all options and where possible give clear recommendations about how we would like to proceed.
To help get the most out of a case presentation visit it is useful if patients understand a little about how we can alter the appearance of teeth. To help with this we have included a list of some commonly used terms so we can all be talking the same language. If you would like to see photographs of some of the techniques mentioned below please explore the StoneRock Smile Solutions page, which will show you details of cases including photographs and explanations of each technique.
Cosmetic dentistry uses several techniques such as whitening and direct bonding to lighten peoples smile and ‘touch up’ any minor imperfections, wear facets or chips. This sort of work generally requires only one or two visits, involves very little drilling to the teeth and is usually at the cheaper end of the fee spectrum.
For more advanced cases where teeth are very misshaped, heavily filled or very discoloured cosmetic dentistry requires work such as porcelain veneers, crowns and overlays. This type of work requires more planning and can take 3 or 4 visits to complete. The teeth are cut down to a preset size and shape to make room for the porcelain work to fit over the top. The aesthetic results can be stunning and will last for many years when cared for properly.
All the photographs of work included were completed by Ian Kerr and Russell Blanchard at StoneRock Dental Care.
