Cosmetic Dentistry (or aesthetic dentistry) is the sphere of dentistry that is concerned with how our smile looks.
When cosmetic dentistry is done well it should aim to create a harmonious attractive smile that is consistent with the patient’s wishes whilst also paying close attention to the health of the teeth and gums. It is the fastest growing area of dentistry and is now a billion pound industry world wide. For the most part the work that is done to improve smiles is elective work which means that it is driven by the patient’s desire to change things rather than a clinical need to treat the teeth.
It is a vitally important consideration with every cosmetic case that a “do nothing” approach is perfectly acceptable. Not every smile needs enhancing and not every patient wants to have any work done. Dentists and patients should always bear this in mind when contemplating work.
The following section looks at the many ways we can enhance a person’s smile and hopes to answer some of the many Frequently Asked Questions.
