This case of Gingival Recontouring highlights the importance of getting the gums in the correct position if we want to get the best out of a smile. The patient did not like the veneer on the front tooth but actually the shade match was quite good, it was the position of the gums and the lack of symmetry that caused the problem here. Fortunately Russell Blanchard is an expert at dealing with this sort of thing and was able to realign the gum heights using some simple soft tissue adjustment under local anaesthetic.
He was then able match up the four front teeth using porcelain veneers made at the excellent Whalton Dental Arts laboratory. So long as the teeth are kept scrupulously clean on a daily basis then the gum health and position will remain stable for many years to come.
