Root Canal Fillings – my passion!

Sadly it’s true; I am nuts about root fillings. I have spent more time studying them, doing them and now lecturing on them then any other topic in dentistry. Because they are such a large part of my working life I have become adept at winning in teeth that would have otherwise been extracted. I realise that there are few more miserable sounding words in the English language but actually the root fillings we do at StoneRock are almost invariably a positive experience for patients as they find out it is a pain free (genuinely) procedure that can rid them of pain and infection and can save teeth that would otherwise have been lost. A natural tooth is the cheapest most durable option we have in the mouth. All replacement options are more expensive (unless we are adding to an existing denture) and all have failure rates attached to them. If we have a chance to predictably restore a tooth then that should always be our first option.

A StoneRock we have a reputation of being a “last chance saloon” for a lot of patients who have been told that they do not have any way of saving their teeth or replacing the missing ones. Often this news will have come after a lot of pain, failed treatments and unhappy experiences. If we can offer these patients a chance of hanging onto what they have got then we can restore chewing comfort and confidence and avoid or delay the significant fees associated with implant based restorations. I believe this is a great service that we offer and am very proud of the work we do.

The following photos try to show the infection at the tip of a root (the dark shadow) that forms the abscess that can cause such terrible pain. By retreating these teeth we provide an environment where the body can remove the infection and grow back healthy bone in it’s place.
