I just saw this page on the BBC website discussing grinding your teeth and the affects it can have. and thought I would make a quick note.
I have been involved with the treatment of Tempero-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) for 15 years now and have helped hundreds of patients manage what can be a painful and very draining problem. In short, when we overload our jaws, teeth and chewing muscles through excessive clenching and grinding of our teeth we can develop headaches, jaw aches and neck pain, clicking and locking of the joints and, not surprisingly, worn and broken teeth. These symptoms are linked together as TMD. Treatment ranges from simple explanation, stretching exercises, through to various types of splints that are worn at night and during periods of high stress or concentration.
I always enjoy the challenge of treating TMD cases and if you feel you might benefit from a consultation regarding this condition then please do not hesitate to contact the surgery and we will be happy to help.
